of land, Lot appears to be quite selfish. In 12:10–20 we saw Abraham motivated by self-interest (for the best of reasons, of course). We should then be sparing in our condemnation of Lot when he acts with similar motives in ch. 13. (I am tempted to say, ‘like father … like son’.)
